Cheekwood to take part in National Public Gardens Day

Cheekwood has received a $1 million endowment to fund a new Artist-in-Residence program to be named in honor of Martin Shallenberger as a gift from a private foundation. Cheekwood

— As Nashville's public garden, Cheekwood will participate in the fourth annual National Public Gardens Day on May 11, 2012. Presented in Partnership by the American Public Gardens Association and Rain Bird, the event is a national day of celebration that invites communities to explore the beauty of their local green spaces while raising awareness of the important role public gardens play in promoting conservation, education and environmental preservation.

On this special Day, Cheekwood will celebrate its important role in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation and education throughout the community. Visitors can download a free coupon for admission to Cheekwood by visiting www.bhg.com/npgd.

The schedule of events for the day is:

11 a.m. until 2 p.m. - Live Music in the Garden

10:30 a.m. - Guided Garden Tour by Cheekwood Staff

12 p.m. - Cheekwood: Nashville's National Treasure, join Jane Offenbach, Cheekwood President & CEO, for an informal conversation about Cheekwood's past, present and future

1:30 p.m. - Guided Garden Tour by Cheekwood Staff
