Arts Commission to meet in Nashville
Quarterly meeting will be held at Tennessee Arts Commission office

Nashville, TN The Tennessee Arts Commission will hold its next quarterly meeting on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Commission office, located at 401 Charlotte Avenue. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.
According to Ellen Hays, chair of the Commission, this will be the final quarterly meeting of Fiscal Year 2012. There will be a full agenda, with a morning and an afternoon session.
The agenda will include a report from the Audit Committee, presented by Commission member and chair of the committee Ed Gerace. A legislative update will be provided by Molly Pratt, government and community relations consultant for Tennesseans for the Arts.
Shannon Ford, director of community arts development for the Commission, will report on the Commission's Web seminar, "The Heart of the Matter," which explored the intrinsic benefits provided by arts experiences. The free Web seminar was viewed by 60 arts professionals at constituent organizations. Ann Brown, director of arts education, will report on the Student Ticket Subsidy grant category. This category provides subsidy funds to public schools for arts and cultural experiences.
Tennessee recently participated in Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation competition sponsored by the Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation. Nan Zierdan, special projects coordinator, will report on Tennessee's participation in the program. Anita Norman, the Poetry Out Loud state champion who represented Tennessee at the national finals in Washington, D.C., will be a special guest at the meeting. Norman is a student at Arlington High School.
The Consent Agenda will include recommendations for guideline revisions, new partnership opportunities, and an appointment to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center Management Board.
One of the central items of business is allocations, with a detailed report provided by the Allocations Committee. The Commission will address grant funding for Fiscal Year 2013 in the afternoon session, which will begin at 1 p.m.
Commission officers for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 will be appointed during the meeting. Retiring Commission members will be recognized for their service. Those members include Ellen Hays of Chattanooga, Barry Scott of Nashville, and Kurt Winstead of Franklin.
The Commission's quarterly meetings are open to the public.
